The One With A Different Playground

It’s been 2 years since Karylle last released an album and I cannot explain how happy I am about the release of her newest album that came out last November 6.

The title really fits the vibe of the entire album, a different playground. In my opinion, most of the songs are outside of Karylle's usual style and it goes beyond the genre people know her for. This aspect of the album just makes me like it even more. It's something new, something fresh and also a proof that she is a versatile singer. I mean, I believe it's hard to be good at more than one genre. (Look at Taylor Swift, she had to choose between country and pop.)

I'm really excited about this album just like how Karylle is excited about unboxing it. I have to admit, the album cover and design is pretty rad. (Well, all her album covers have been awesome so far and haven't failed to deliver.)

The album has 8 awesome tracks 2 of which she released already. I cannot wait for new music videos and what her next single is.

Being my reactive and opinionated self, I decided to write a sort of review for each song. I've managed to pick early favorites based on first listen but I think I got a better feel of the album after letting it play all day. From my way to school, to my way home, to my jam during homework and even while typing this. My review would basically be my tweets compiled into one post since I would usually tweet my fave line or how a certain part of the song can be #hugot or how awesome that note sounded or how I got #LastSongSyndrome already.

Fave Line: Magbabalik-balik, balik baliktanaw
This was actually a good choice to put first on the track list. I reaaallly like the beat of this song. I have a feeling that this would be a good wake up call in the morning. To be honest, for someone who got left behind this is a pretty positive, upbeat and optimistic song to sing, focusing on the good memories rather than the bad ones and choosing to go back to those memories rather than dwelling on the negative ones. Pretty much how we should be taking things. #FAVORITE. This song is totally #LSS worthy.

Fave Line: This is the sound when you're around
The beginning beat of this song is quite deceiving. I was thinking that it was some quick tempo-ed revenge song. If I was scoring a movie, this song would be perfect for when the leads meet up for the first time after going through a great catastrophe. HAHAHA. Music video ideas! LOL. I wonder though why "Sunflower" is the title. Did I miss it or did I not hear the word sunflower anywhere in that song? Karylle, if you read this, why?

P.S. Sunflowers are my favorite. Just a random fact.

Fave Line: Wag sanang aking akalain, di akin ang pag-ibig at pag-tingin. OUCH!
#HUGOT. This song and all the feels of the choice of waiting and fighting or letting go. But I do wonder about the answer to the question posted on the chorus. "Paano ko tuturuan ang puso na magtiis?" I can already see this track as a theme song of a certain movie or teleserye or maybe even the newst plot to a wattpad story. In my opinion, this genre is Karylle's usual style, so it was good to explore other styles but keep a little of the usual.

Fave Line: Even when it rains. Raining marshmallows.
I would probably consider this as the chillest song in the album. I really got attached to this one the most. I love the sound of the guitar and the witty lyrics is just perf. I want to make a cover of it as soon as I can. I love it that much that I want to learn it an instant. Basically has been my calming song since its release. I listen to it when I'm angry, nervous, about to take a test, even in the most random moments but I'm guessing it has found its competition on my playlist. I wish this song was longer though. I love how #positive this song is. Such a feel good tune.

Fave Line: My lips are way too busy talking about my baby
Got a crush or maybe a new fangirl/boy subject and all you do is run your mouth about them. From actual conversations and maybe even on social media (been there, done that) to a point that people around you wants you to shut up. Here is the perfect song. I like how this album is filled with feel good music or in this case, a feel good love song that has hints of clingy vibes. HAHAHA. Shoop shoop shoop shoop shoobedowap. I got hooked to this song not long ago during my prelims week and I think I annoyed people by constantly playing and singing it. Finally, to be able to shut up about this song, I made a cover of it on my soundcloud.

And of course I couldn't shut up when Karylle retweeted it. AHHHH.

Fave Line: Ang iyong kalinga ay kanlungang matibay
Hearing the first line made me realize something, this was the freaking song in Rama Hari. This was actually my favorite part of the play and it was even more awesome that they gave this epic song a modern twist. Seriously, this is awesome. BTW, Karylle needs a new musical soon.

Awww. #TBT Rama Hari was the first time I met Karylle in person, almost 3 years ago.

Fave Line: Epic or disaster, take your pick.
I really like the progression of the song from minimal instrument sound to a slow build up until it hits 2:05. I haven't quite grasped the idea of the song except for the idea of having chances but then again maybe I'm overthinking it.

Fave Line: Teeeendeeerrlllyyyy
This is one of the obvious depiction of the "out of the usual style" songs that makes this album more versatile than you think. Listening to this gave me a quick feel of Dessert Drama from the Roadtrip album. I like the simplicity of the song and just the easy vibe the tone brings.

So, basically, this is what I think of the album just by spending a day and a half with it. I cannot wait for the actual album launch and hear Karylle sing these songs live. I also look forward to hearing the stories behind the songs.Maybe some of my ideas and opinions would change after hearing them. Meanwhile, I recommend you buy this album if you don't have it yet. (no to piracy.) I still really like buying CDs even though some of my friends think I'm crazy but that's just my preference.

P.S. I feel like a total nerd writing down notes and commentaries while listening to the songs. :))

The One With The Rue

*Disclaimer: most photos were taken from google and tumblr so I credit the owners. Also, videos were taken from Val's facebook page and youtube.

It all started with my weird sleep cycle. One fine day, I got so tired I was in bed by 8pm, which is very unusual. Since my college stamina is good with just, around, 3-4 hours of sleep, I was awake by midnight and extremely bored by 2am. The answer to this problem is the magic of what we all refer to as Youtube.

As I was browsing, I came across this video entitled Rumer Willis and Val Chmerkovskiy Viennese Waltz, so I'm like, what the heck! I'm watching this.

OMG!! Wasn't that intense? Especially that thing during 1:25 of the video. I mean!! Ahhhhmaaagaaahd! If they remade 50 Shades and got these two as Christian and Anastacia, I would definitely not mind or better yet, 50 Shades the musical? Hahaha. That deserved all 10s though but who am I to question Len Goodman and Julianne Hough for giving 9s. This dance though was the start of a crazy fangirl mode.

Let's just say that I started watching all of their performances. I now turned to the ever trusted Wikipedia to know the order of the dances

1. Foxtrot

Well duh!! Highest score of the night. She didn't seem like a contestant though. She looked like a pro already even though she said that her feet weren't pointed enough at some point. But it looks super good!

2.Cha-cha

RUMER DEFINITELY HAS IT! #RumerHasIt Perfect song choice. That was some fancy footworks. Can't believe they choreograph and learn everything in a week.

3.Salsa

"Monday night fever starts here." according to Bruno and I totally agree with him. Tell me the truth! She's a pro, isn't she? That choreography was awesome with all the liftings plus the canons (wink).Even though she busted Val's lips practicing the lifts at a roller disco, it was definitely worth it. "That, for me, is the best dance I've seen this season." and we don't argue with Len.

P.S. Excuse me but her dance bod is insane! I mean... WHAT! #fitspiration

4.Waltz

I just love the simplicity of this routine with more of the emotions dictating the dance and the story behind it just pulls my heart strings. What she went through is no joke, so cyberbullies her accomplishment is a big "SUCK IT" to your faces.

5.Samba

Disney night! First, it was a great to deviate from the norm of playing the protagonist. This number is so much fun! Their make-up and costume was amazeballs. "DON'T UNDERESTIMATE THE IMPORTANCE OF A BODDDY LANGUAGE!" Definitely, one of my fave routines. Plus, they're back at the top of the leader board.

6.a. Jazz

Bootylicious. Can you handle it? Obviously Len coundn't! =)))  It might have been too raunchy and lacking jazz for Len but Bruno was definitely loving and handling it.

6.b. Freestyle (group)

#TeamTrouble

7. Jive

I love this song and I love the concept of the routine. Tension was running high in their package but I still think it was a great routine. Judges said it was too safe though. But I believe this dance was their turning point.

8.a. Rumba

There is no perhaps at how amazing that routine was. Simple but stunning. They really deserved the perfect score! Its Valenrue's comeback dance. This was the first dance of the season to earn a perfect 40 points and that bragging right belongs to Valenrue!

8.b. Pasa Doble (Trio)

They take Pasa Doble seriously and wasn't that awesome!!! I love how Rumer plays a particular character every dance. Her face is always in character and she's able to maintain that throughout the routine which makes the concept and genre believable. This also got a perfect 40 which gave them a total of 80/80 for the night.

9.a. Viennese Waltz

This was the video I posted first which got me started in this entire thing! But let's take a moment of silence to appreciate the awesomeness of this routine.

9.b. Contemporary

Swan Lake is epic on its own but they gave it justice and Bruno (their mentor) was out of this world. That lift was super hard but they managed to do it flawlessly.

10. Freestyle

Also my fave! I mean, talk about Toxic. I can't believe that Rumer recorded this. She has an amazing voice. I am still hoping for her to release an album soon. Ahhh. She can act, she can dance and she can sing too. Triple Threat! Geez. #RumerHasIt. The choreo of this dance was amazeballs, I don't know what Val was so nervous about doing a freestyle. THIS IS AMAZING!

11. Foxtrot/ Paso Doble

This was their final dance in the competition. I love how this was such a happy dance. They're both just smiling all throughout and I love how they ended not with a pose but with Rumer taking her final bow as a contestant. Ahhh. The feels of this routine. BRILLIANT!

After watching their performances for quite a number of times, my focus shifted beyond the dance and just saw VALENRUE! I mean!!! AHHHHH. Aren't they the cutest? I know they're "just friends" and all but I can't help but sail the ship for this ship!

We love you too!

Uhmmmmm

I DIE!!!
So that’s DWTS Season 20 with Valenrue for me. I managed to watch the entire season, one whole Saturday and I have to say, it was a really entertaining show.
After finishing DWTS, it was time to go to a bigger playing field to fangirl. This is where Rumer’s IMDB page comes in.

Let’s start with the House Bunny. I’ve seen this movie waaaaaay before I started fangirling over Rumer (ehem, Kat Dennings. Previous post) but I’ve always loved Joanne with her bedazzled spinal brace and her sprint in slow motion to catch up jogger Steve.

Next up, Wild Cherry. This is actually a good movie. I found it very current and very funny as well. It’s about a group of girl friends finding out about “the book” owned by the football team. This “book” contain the names of girls which the players are tasked to, well, pop. I love the twist about Rumer’s character in the end though. I won’t spoil! Go and watch it!

I’ve also managed to watch The Diary of Preston Plummer. Okay, this movie was a bit heavy for me since it’s an intense family drama. Intense, meaning it has twisted family issues there but in general I liked it because it was a different and new plot.

I like movies that are in some ways like a musical which is why I really enjoyed Always Woodstock. I like the story of how the lead character fought for what she really wants her music to be and not be persuaded by what’s considered “in” or mainstream right now, this happening while she deals with all of her other issues like some boy drama and writing drama. In the end, more musicians should be like that of the lead. They should remain true to what their music is really all about.

As a Psychology major, I really appreciate movies which discusses mental issues since people really need more awareness regarding this matter. The Odd Way Home is a movie about a girl named Maya who had an abusive childhood and is now in an abusive relationship. The beginning of the movie was hard to watch because it depicted the physical abuse she was dealing with in the hands of a man she seemed to use to love. The story revolves around Maya finally deciding to escape her abusive environment and along the way she meets Duncan, whom I think is experiencing Asperger’s Syndrome based on his characteristics in the film. This movie was all about their journey on trying to find a “home” hopefully with their real families but as always, not everything goes the way it was planned.

It’s a really good movie about friendship and I guess, caring for someone sincerely even though you know they might not be able to recognize it or reciprocate it because of their situation.

There are more movies to watch but most I cannot find and some I cannot find the courage to watch since they’re all horrors and thrillers but I will one day. Maybe during the broad daylight kind of day.

Rumer has also been part of a number of TV series. One in particular is her portrayal of Gia in the 90’s hit remake, 90210. Her character entered during the second season of the show and she was a mainstay for 10 episodes. Her role as Gia was the friend turned lover of Jessica Lowndes character, Adrianna. And just like any good love story, writers just had to ruin the moment because a lot of people were still rooting for Navid and Ade to get back together at this point of the season. For this to happen, they had to create this annoying angle of Gia cheating after a massive fight with Adrianna. Okay, not cool. She really liked Ade and they should’ve ended this in a better way. Disappointed but what can I do. Still those ten episodes were a great watch

Other TV series she appeared on are Medium, Hawaii Five-O and CSI: New York. They weren’t really massive roles but as always she was awesome at portraying her character, especially the one in Medium.
I’m a massive fan of Pretty Little Liars and I was really stoked to see her during  the 4th season of the show as Emily’s friend. It was one scene and all but there are rumors that Rumer is coming back this 6th season for the #SummerOfAnswers as a friend of Sara Harvey and I am hoping that this is true.

Another show I was able to watch is this webisode called Los Feliz, 90027. So far it has only one episode but after watching it I was like, daaaaamn why is this not a full length series just yet. It’s amazing how it’s half recorded and half done in front of a live audience. There needs to be a second episode and more because Austin and Veronica needs to be the end game of this.

Aside from her acting chaps, this girl can sing too. And no, not just, I can follow the rhythm kind of singing, I mean REAL singing. She's always been known as an actress but what a lot of people don't know is that she also does singing gigs. One of her famous covers is Miley's Wrecking Ball.

TBH, I like this version better.

There is also You Don't Own Me. I remember this song from the movie The First Wives Club with Diane Keaton, Goldie Hawn and Bett Midler which I have memorized by heart and I've loved this song ever since. This song also showed the uniqueness of her voice plus the fact that she actually sounds good, LIVE!

There's also Taylor Swift's hit, Out of the Woods.

Since we've mainly proven that #RumerHasIt here's her cover of Adele's Rumor Has It.

I also like Rumer's cover of Can't Help Falling In Love. This is some soothing lullaby. Her voice suits the arrangement of the song and I could listen to it all day. I couldn't find a video of her singing it though.

And one of my fave is this parody of Ariana Grande's Problem which was entitled "SPF" talking about skin protection. Some might not get it or might not like it but I am totally obsessed with it. It's also currently on repeat on my Spotify. Rumer is so pretty! #RubThatShitOn #PutThatSPFOn

And last but not the least is her amazing version of Toxic by Britney Spears which Val played the violin in. They used this song for their Freestyle in DWTS 20. To be perfectly honest, this version is way better than the original version. I think this song was really meant to be slow rather than an upbeat one.

She's an amazing actress and an amazing singer and now an even more amazing dancer. Rumer really does have it. I wish to see her in more films as a lead character. I also wish for her to release an album. She recently tweeted that she's releasing a new original song so, that's a start! Maybe a musical movie to incorporate everything in one project.

Another thing we need to tackle is how nice she is despite all those flippin haters and bashers who are brave just because they're behind the computer. Most celebrities would brush the rude comments off and let the fans take care of it but I found it very impressive and classy to read this tweet on my timeline.

I don't get people who dislike her. I mean why!!!! She's such an awesome being. People hate on her because she was born to famous parents, well guess what, not her flippin fault and people seriously need to get over it. She's talented on her own that is why she has a career. And people seriously need to stop dissing her about how she looks. She's freaking gorgeous in her own right.

To finally end this blog (because this, I think is longest one I've done), I'm really looking forward to seeing and hearing more of Rumer Willis because I know Rumer definitely has it to make it big time. She's bound to do bigger things soon.

I love Rumer Willis and I know more people are starting to love her as well and in no time all those bashers will be as irrelevant as they are today.

And to Rumer, even though I know its a long shot for you to be reading this, I want you to know that I'll always be a fan and you're officially my goal. And, you really deserve that mirror ball because you're plain amazing!

The One With Kat Dennings

Have you ever encountered an actor who was a part of the supporting cast but later on found stardom in a major way? A perfect example for one would be Rob Pattinson. He played alongside Daniel Radcliffe in Harry Potter as Cedric Diggory and then came his big break as Edward Cullen in the film adaptation of Stephanie Meyer's Twilight Saga. This exactly how I found the new subject to my fangirling.

She's played along side Hilary Duff, Robert Downey Jr., Natalie Portman, Chris Hemsworth, Steve Carell, and even the ladies of Sex and the City. It's none other than her royal awesomeness...

As the semestral/ Christmas break rolled in, I have around a month and 2 weeks of doing absolutely nothing. So I figured, I'd catch up on my tv series. After finishing Pretty Little Liars and Suits up to it's latest episode I decided to take a chance and start on a new series and this is when I found 2 Broke Girls.
It's a story about Max (Kat Dennings) and Caroline (Beth Behrs) who work as waitresses at the Williamsburg diner while they try to start up a cupcake business which isn't as easy as it looks like. Together with the hilarious cast they embark on a roller coaster ride that focuses on friendship and goal -attainment while you're broke.

In the series, my favorite character is Max Black which is played by Kat Dennings. Wanna know why I love her character? Here are a few reasons why.

Here's a video from the show the shows her impeccable comedic timing.

This is one of my favorite scenes from Season 3

After finishing 2 Broke Girls from season 1 up to the latest season in, roughly, around 3 days, I had a field day in Kat Dennings IMDB page. Guilty of obsession/ fan dedication.

I literally ransacked our VCD and DVD collection plus the magical portal of internet and went through every single thing on her filmography.  So I went with Sex and the City first. She was featured in the episode called "Hot Child in the City". (Season 3 episode 15) Thank God my mom had the complete series on VCD. :)

And then I went on a rampage and watched all other series she guested in like Without A Trace, E.R., CSI, CSI:NY and The Newsroom. From a person with a missing boyfriend to a rich kid hosting pharma parties, I really enjoyed watching all the series episodes she was in. I honestly loved her recurring role in E.R. when she was paired with Shane West, too bad her character needed to move because of daddy issues.

After all the series flashback, I went to movies. One of the first movies I've seen her in was Raise Your Voice with Hilary Duff where she plays Sloane, the quiet piano genius, and I love her already but this was waaaaaay back. I still remember watching it the first time and laughing so hard when she went on a date with Kiwi in that "dress".  I also read from somewhere that she actually took piano lessons for this role. Geez. Talk about dedication. #SHEDOESN'TEVENKNOW

Then I watched the 40- Year Old Virgin and Big Momma's House 2. Somehow, I noticed that she's always playing a rebellious teenager. Well, she does an awesome job at it. Next movie was Charlie Bartlett. Okay, I have no idea where to begin with this one. Let me just say, "IF YOU WANT TO SING OUT, SING OUT." For crying out loud, the girl can sing too! I'm seriously recommending this movie!!

And then there was Shorts, The House Bunny and Defendor. Yes, not defender, it's DEFENDOR! Your modern day super hero looking for Captain Industry.

Next on the movie list was Daydream Nation. How do I describe this film? I found Josh Lucas' character very disturbing and it was creeping me out at some point but atleast in the end Thurston and Caroline ended up together even if it took them quite a number of events like a student getting involved with her crazy professor, some people overdosing, a serial killer being accidentally killed and crazy professor who bleached his hair and shot himself

End lesson: Don't get involved with your professor who has a lot of self esteem and attachment issues and then use a guy who actually likes you as a cover up. Don't do drugs. Stop partying when there's a serial killer on the loose. And probably a lot more.

Now, here's another favorite. Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist.

In a span of one month, I've lost count of how many times I watched this movie. I sort of memorized it already. There were even weeks that I'd watch it everyday. Crazy, I know. But I love it especially the end scene and the scene before that. =))

Norah: Are you sad we missed it?
Nick: We didn't miss it. This is it.
I DIEE!!! Don't even get me started on the musical scoring for this movie.

I never thought I'd get hooked on a superhero movie but what the heck. I loved Thor and Thor: The Dark World because of Kat Dennings and her taser.

I personally believe that Darcy's character is the best thing that happened to the Thor franchise. When all the evil fighting and intense action reaches a certain level, a few smart ass comments or one liners from Darcy Lewis can never go wrong.

For Thor 3, I really wish Loki and Darcy get to meet and maybe even get together. Come on! He's sort of miserable so he deserves the lady. On the other hand, she's been working so hard while third wheeling on the Thor/Jane romance. So Loki/Darcy should happen!! One, I think it'll be sarcasm heaven and two, I think Loki will find his match in Darcy. Gaaaahhh!! Imagine the banter!

Me too, my dear.

It's amazing how Loki and Darcy haven't even met yet but the number of fanarts online are countless. See!!! They see it too!

So yeah, I spent one day blogging about my current attachment to Kat Dennings, her witty and sarcastic character and her awesomeness in general. There'll probably a part two fro this blog. I can sense it!

This is the point of no return. I am hooked.

P.S. All the pictures were found on pinterest and google. So i don't own anything. :D
